NASA has asserted that China’s Three Gorges Dam might slightly impede the Earth’s rotation and prolong the length of days.
Located in Hubei province, a province in central China, the huge infrastructure can contain an incredible 40 trillion liters of water. Filling it would slightly alter the Earth’s axis, prolonging days by 0.06 microseconds.
This dam crosses the Yangtze River, Asia’s longest river, and produces more electricity than anyone else’s hydroelectric power generation facility globally.
The American space agency has reportedly stated that the dam’s activity could affect the planet’s rotation.
The Three Gorges Dam was officially opened in 2012, a full 18 years after the construction project was initiated.
