Copán, an influential heritage
It was at this moment that the city of Copán began to rise from the ashes, under the leadership of Smoke Jaguar, followed by his son, Waxaklajuun Ub’aah K’awiil, known as “Eighteen Rabbits.” Later, Copán would reach its peak and become one of the most powerful Maya cities worldwide.
In the nineteenth century, a contractual agreement was reached between Honduras and Harvard University for the restoration and preservation of the ruins in 1891.
