American Airlines flight is struck by lightning

An American Airlines flight was rerouted to Pittsburgh following a reported lightning strike incident.

The flight departed at 6:55 AM EST on Tuesday morning, operated by Regional Jet, a regional airline.

The aircraft, however, made an unexpected arrival in Pittsburgh at 7.58am, with the pilots citing that the plane had been struck by lightning as the reason.

“The individuals claimed they were hit by a lightning strike,’ an air traffic control recording broadcast by the local radio station stated.

Following the plane’s arrival, fire services observed no apparent harm to the aircraft, a small Embraer 175 aircraft suited for short-haul flights.


The flight successfully arrived on the ground, then taxied to the designated gate under its own propulsion, and we are about to switch aircraft to continue the journey to Boston.

The aircraft is currently being inspected for any necessary repairs.
