Five cities in Romania among safest 50 cities in Europe

Five Romanian cities are ranked as some of the safest places in Europe for both residence and travel purposes.

The city’s ranking was negatively impacted by a moderate level of corruption and a rising crime rate over the past three years. Nevertheless, Cluj remains extremely safe for visitors and residents to walk during the day, and very safe to walk alone at night.

Timisoara comes 17th in the listings, while Brasov follows in 18th place.

Safety for walking alone during the day and at night is also quite high in Bucharest. A high level of perceived corruption lowers the capital’s ranking.

In the same classification, the eastern Romanian city of Iasi comes in at 50th place.

The safest cities in Europe are The Hague in the Netherlands, Bern, the capital of Switzerland, and Munich in Germany. The top 10 also includes Ljubljana from Slovenia, Zagreb from Croatia, and Eindhoven, another city from the Netherlands.

One of the key indicators of a city’s safety level is its crime rate. Road accidents are another crucial factor taken into account when assessing safety. Cities that invest in good road infrastructure, enforce strict traffic laws, and promote public transportation are generally considered to be safer. Public safety or the safety of public spaces also significantly contributes to this ranking.

The least secure city in Europe is Marseille in southern France, ranked first, followed by Coventry and Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
