Volkswagen’s electric crossover is returning to the market after addressing a problem with a faulty door handle, and “highly competitive lease offers” are now available.
Being 94% down in the fourth quarter and 55% down overall since 2023 — however, a significant part of that can be attributed to the fact that the ID.4 is only just starting to be on sale for months.
Now, however, Volkswagen’s national crisis appears to be at an end. The automaker announced on Friday that the stop-sale order for the ID.4 has been lifted, and U.S., dealerships are clear to start selling them again. In addition, U.S. production of the ID.4 is expected to resume soon, “with the aim of re-establishing the ID.4 as one of the top-selling electric vehicles in the U.S. and Canada,” VW officials stated in a news release.
Actually, VW clearly wants to make up for lost time. “To commemorate the cars resuming sales, Volkswagen will be providing highly competitive lease terms on ID.4s, making what was one of the most affordable electric compact SUVs even more accessible,” the automaker stated.
Actually, the past few months have been challenging for the ID.4, which initially offered a groundbreaking experience as a pioneering crossover and one of the first Tesla Model Y-style electric vehicles from a well-established automaker.
It was said to cause the doors to open unexpectedly. Approximately 100,000 ID.4s were initially recalled. The recall affected 2021-24 ID.4s and all four of their door handles.
Now that manufacturers have those parts available again, customers can get their vehicles repaired and sales are once more expected to pick up.
The widespread adoption of electric vehicles has led to numerous innovation challenges, with many new models facing holdups, logistical issues, and complexity in their software systems.
—the renewed focus on lease deals stems from this.
