William Ruto leaves country for Uganda, how Kenya will benefit

The President of Kenya, William Ruto, has departed for Uganda to attend a special African Union summit in Kampala for a brief one-day visit.

A statement from State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed noted that the summit, which focuses on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive African Development Agriculture Programme, aims to combat hunger and poverty through agriculture-driven development and transform Africa’s agricultural food systems.

The summit will evaluate progress towards set objectives and aims to adopt the Kampala Declaration, outlining a shared perspective for transforming agri-food systems from 2026 to 2035.

What benefits will Kenya derive from Ruto’s visit to Uganda?

The Kenyan president is scheduled to discuss in Kampala about the country’s initiatives to lower poverty rates, enhance job creation, and promote food safety and sustainable development.

“The program will emphasize the alignment of CAADP with Kenya’s Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030, reaffirming the country’s commitment to agricultural transformation,” the statement added.

Following this, Ruto will meet with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni to discuss expanding regional priorities.

The discussions will also aim to establish a consensus and gain backing for his role as champion of African Union institutional reforms before his inaugural report on the reform plan.

Has President Museveni attended the Luo Cultural Festival?

Following Museveni’s visit to Siaya county on January 2, 2025, for the celebration of the Luo Community Festival.

The Piny Luo Festival took place from December 30, 2024, to January 2, 2025.

This involved the Luo community from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Ethiopia.

President Museveni joined Ruto and Raila Odinga at the peak of the festivities, which featured the inauguration of the new 20,000-seat Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium (Siaya County Stadium).
